I decided to write this blog post about the importance of humility in leadership. We always think that a great leader should typically exhibit such traits as charisma, enthusiasm and vision. Humbleness is usually overlooked when it comes to selecting a great leader. It can be related to our aspiration for individualism where the virtue of humbleness cannot help us to distinguish from the rest.
But Jim Collins in his article titled “Level 5 Leadership” emphasized and pointed out that humility is the essential leadership trait to transform a good organization to a great one (I think this is not only applicable to organizations, companies, but is also relevant to communities, families, nation leaders etc.). Moreover, people at Level 5 leadership roles refuse to take credits for their achievements, but instead credit people around them and refer to the “luck” in their accomplishments (Collin, 2005. Published in HBR).
To be continued.... (I'll try to develop and build on this thought further in my next blog post)
